Hiding my dyslexia – have you ever done the same?
I thought it would be a good opportunity to share with you that you’re not alone if you hide your dyslexia. I did for years and even hid it from my family!! When you’re made to feel an outsider, you feel it and as human beings, we try to mask what is different so we ‘blend’ in. I have met so many people who have chosen to not disclose their hidden disability as they feel it will hinder them in some way.
My goal now is to try and help others realise their potential and shift the cultural perception that dyslexia, dyspraxia and neurodiverse individuals cap performance. When really, utilised in the right way, can boost performance in many ways.
My message is to you all reading this is, embrace your neurodiversity because you will find that more people you know are actually dyslexic and the more visible we are, the more we can change the negative perception.
